Summary – Health & Wellness Committee – Feb 23, 2016

February 25, 2016 by Brad Trivers Leave a Comment

On February 23, 2016 I attended a meeting of the Standing Committee on Health and Wellness focused on supports for grandparents as primary caregivers.

grandparents as primary caregivers 2

Below is a summary of decisions.

  1. Moving forward with Motion No. 60 (Supports for grandparents acting as primary care givers):
    • Thanks to all for a good discussion following yesterday’s presentations, with some great suggestions for future presenters on this topic, including: the PEI Seniors Federation and the PEI Foster Parents Association. There were many other suggestions, so I will compile a complete list once the transcript of yesterday’s meeting is available.
  2.  Presentations:
    • I have attached an electronic version of the Minister of Family and Human Services’ presentation to this email for your interest.
    • The Grandparents Support Group submitted two documents:
      1. The Community Legal Information Association’s information booklet titled “Grandparents Parenting on PEI”;
      2. A poem written by Cynthia Poirier.
    • I have attached electronic versions of both those documents.
  3.  New Business:
    • Under new business, two items were suggested by Brad Trivers, and will be on the agenda for discussion by the committee at a future time:
      1. Child care subsidies;
      2. Seniors engagement.
  4.  Next meeting of this committee:
    • The Standing Committee on Health and Wellness is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, March 8 at 1:30 pm in the Committee Room of the J. Angus MacLean Building to meet with Hon. Robert Henderson, Minister of Health and Wellness on the topic of out-of-province health care expenditures.
