Work Plan – Infrastructure and Energy – Jan 2016

Summary – January 14, 2016 – Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Energy meeting

Committee members reviewed the agenda and approved the list of witnesses and groups that has been suggested for each topic of discussion.

Thus far the committee will be discussing:

  • A) Crown asset disposal policies
  • B) Further review of IRAC and petroleum regulation
  • C) Further review of energy conservation efforts in PEI
  • D) Further review of renewable energy use in PEI

New Business

The Committee noted that they had wanted to discuss the issue of infrastructure as it relates to the provision of High Speed Internet and noted that the Education and Innovation Committee was going to tackle that subject – they requested that they get notification and an invitation to that committee’s meeting with Bell Aliant on that subject.  Members seemed to feel that the subject should be under their committee and noted that if they wanted to discuss it themselves, they could bring it to the agenda at a later date.

The list of witnesses approved to appear before the committee included:

  • representative(s) from Treasury Board or Finance
  • representatives of petroleum companies and/or the PEI Petroleum Marketers Association the PEI Office of Energy Efficiency
  • the UPEI School of Sustainable Engineering
  • the Holland College Energy Systems Engineering Technology Program
  • Architecture Firms with experience in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
  • Stephen Howard of Renewable Lifestyles
  • Matthew McCarville
  • PEI Energy Systems regarding biomass energy
  • the Wind Energy Institute of Canada
