How do you make sure you’re buying Island beef? 🥩 Here’s the answer I got at the Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. In my preamble I was able to mention Ron and Lynda Trivers, Dixon Farms, KJL Select Meats & Market North River, and Kays Wholesale too! Presenting to the standing committee were Ellen Davis (Livestock Champion), Lynda Ramsay (Director of Agriculture Resources, Department of Agriculture), and Bruce Andrews (Vice President of Operations, Atlantic Beef Products).
PEI’s Provincial Livestock Champion (Ellen Davis) was at the table, and the PEI Livestock Strategy was the topic January 22, 2026 at the Standing Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. This is the first program of its kind on Prince Edward Island and it’s already paying off. In just the first year, PEI’s cattle herd grew by 838 animals.
The strategy was built with input from farmers and industry, so it reflects what Island farms actually need, while still caring for the environment. By helping farmers grow, modernize, and improve animal health, this program is strengthening farms and rural communities across PEI.
A strong livestock industry matters for our economy, our food system and our soil health. This strategy shows what we can achieve when government and farmers work together.
