Beach Parking at North Rustico Harbour Blocking Traffic

June 27, 2017 by Leave a Comment

People park at the North Rustico Harbour, especially on Breakwater Road, to get access to the beach (free).  The road narrows down to one lane, is sometimes blocked.  This causes problems for locals in accessing their property, and there are many times where a fire truck or ambulance may not be able to get through if needed.

In addition  people do not respect the private property they are impacting, hold picnics beside people’s houses in their yards, use private water hoses to wash off and then leave on the street, empty ash trays onto the road or yards, and sometimes leave dirty diapers and other garbage.

The RCMP have been to the area to police the situation in the past, but the resources aren’t available for them to do this continuously.

RESOLVED Summer 2017 – No Parking Signs Added

No parking signs have been added to the areas in question making it physically difficult to park there, and clear that no parking is allowed.  Very similar no parking signs that can be found near the PEI Preserve Company in New Glasgow.  No parking signs were also added in front of The Toy Factory in New Glasgow because people were parking on the road there.
