Hunter River Sidewalk

January 4, 2016 by Leave a Comment

Rte 13 north of the main intersection of Rte 2 in Hunter River needs a sidewalk, or at the very least wider shoulders.  It is very dangerous and many people walk the stretch from Karla’s Country Villas into the town to access various service (Royal Bank, Pharmacy, By the River Bakery, Irving, Post Office, Community Centre, library, churches, etc.).

Resolution

Mar 8, 2018 – The PEI government has announced that they will be widening Rte 13 in Hunter River in 2018 (see CBC story here).  Confirmation from the Department of Transportation confirms that it will include the section between Rte 2 and Karla’s Country Villas.  The tender for the project can be found at https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/tender/peig-tie-4947 .

“The work includes: cold planing existing asphalt, earth excavation for widening, placing select borrow, placing granular A, placing concrete curb, placing asphalt levelling A, placing asphalt seal B, shouldering and all other work necessary to complete the Contract.”

It does not include a sidewalk, but the widened shoulders should allow for much safer pedestrian and cycle traffic.

  • Bruce Ellis Your complaining about snow in the middle when people not trucks but live people have to walk on the side of the road in hunter river and have to jump into the snow banks cuz we don’t have a side walk to walk on to be safe. Something is wrong with the gov. They care more about trucks and cars then people
  • Brad Trivers Yes. Hunter River is brutally dangerous for walkers from Bungay Road up to the Rte 2 intersection. This is on the list.https://bradtrivers.com/issue/hunter-river-sidewalk/
Dwight Parkman Yes and try and cross the road in the summer I am told the trucks can’t stop for a crosswalk go figure!

Bruce Ellis I was told from the last gov nothing will be done until some one gets hurt

Bruce Ellis Everyone in gov said we have no money I said does some one have to die first. He said yes and this floored me cuz no one cares

Bruce Ellis So brad please help the people it seems like I have been fighting for a sidewalk for years For a side walk for our kids and grand Children

Dwight Parkman Bruce if we had the money the gov spent on the old Ellis house corner that would do all the walks . It’s to bad the last government was such a lame duck. You could always ask terry m funny I know.

Dwight Parkman Have you ever witnessed any of the double wide farm equipment when they travel through they take the whole road both lanes something wrong with this picture.
Bruce Ellis It makes me so mad when I’m with my grandson walking on the side of the road and if he goes hit the blood will be on the gov It’s like this you can talk until your blue in the face and nothing will get done. Only if one child gets killed then the gov will start to think about it
