New Power Substation – Bagnall Road

February 9, 2017 by Brad Trivers Leave a Comment

Maritime Electric has officially announced that a new power substation will be built on the Bagnall Road, and is expected to be complete by the end of 2017 at the latest.  Special thanks to the working group that worked so hard to ensure that Maritime Electric was presented with acceptable solutions for the surrounding communities.  Also thank you to Maritime Electric for the large effort and expense they put into working with the communities and changing to a power solution with much less impact to our community.

For the record, this letter below outlines the requests that have been put forward by me on behalf of concerned constituents to Maritime Electric regarding the Bagnall Road substation location:

and this is the response from Maritime Electric:

Of course, the reason that Maritime Electric and the community were put in this situation, is because the regulations need to be improved to ensure that communities are effectively engaged regarding the planning and implementation of large infrastructure projects.  Also the PEI Energy Strategy needs to be released as soon as possible, and the government needs to ensure that entities like Maritime Electric adhere to it.  In the video below from the spring of 2016 (created by Robert Van Waarden Hamon) I talk about these issues.
