On November 12, 2025 I rose to present the following Members Statement recognizing and thanking Health Professionals – including PEINU President Kim Sears.
Thank you Mr. Speaker,
I rise today to express deep gratitude to health care professionals who live in District 18 Rustico-Emerald and across the Island. Their dedication, compassion, and resilience – especially in the face of rapid population growth and increasing demand – is nothing short of extraordinary.
I especially want to recognize Kim Sears, a long -time friend, proud resident of District 18, and officially the President of the PEI Nurses’ Union as of November 1, 2025. Kim has been a tireless advocate for nurses and for quality patient care, and I know her leadership will make a real difference.
I also want to commend the Gulf Shore Community Health Corporation for their ongoing work to improve access to care in our region over the last 25 years. Their efforts have laid the foundation for a major step forward: the new Patient Medical Home being built in North Rustico. I urge government to consult and engage with them going forward – as they have their finger on the pulse of what the community wants and needs.
When I was Minister of Education, our Director used to say implementing big change is like building an airplane while flying it. Well, Mr. Speaker, kudos to the Minister and his team in the Department of Health & Wellness, and Health PEI – because what they do is nothing short of building a rocket ship while it is blasting off; and when I speak with constituents, they often make it a point to remark just how excellent the care is they receive.
To all those working in health care: thank you. Your work matters. Your impact is felt. And your community stands with you.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
