“Hello, I have just moved into North Rustico and wondered if you could look into the busing for Bluefield. I live in Hilltop and have two children having to walk to Robins to catch the bus. I know it’s not overly far but when it’s storming and I am work I do not want them walking. There is also no sidewalk available for the kids and have been told that children from Gulf Shore are not allowed to walk because of no sidewalk and I am curious why the high school kids can.”

Email from Transportation Supervisor January 19, 2016
“Offered the option to have the new stop at the end of Hilltop Ave no problems the bus goes by anyway. But if the change is made then the kids are picked there and always there. Not at Robins some days when the weather is better.“
Concerned parent is reconsidering the request and will talk to all the children on the street. Parent wants bus stop to remain the same for now.
Notes
From the top of Hilltop Ave it is a distance of 1.1km to Robin’s Donuts, and from the bottom of Hilltop Ave it is 350m to Robin’s Donuts. So, the distance students would have to walk is somewhere in between these two lengths. Aside from distance the concern is that there are no sidewalks on the route they need to walk, in the winter the route may be dark in both the morning and evening, bad weather can make conditions difficult, and the last 350m is along the main road – Rte 6 Rustico Road – which can be quite busy.
