On November 7, 2024, Bill 111 Service Dog Act was brought forward for second reading and debate in committee of the whole in the Legislative Assembly of PEI. Helping promote Bill 111 were service dog advocates Jennifer Sanderson, Russell McCabe, Shannon Noonan and Rev. Dr. Karen MacRae.
There was limited time for debate, but progress was made. Eight amendments are being put forward based on consultation, and the first few of these were passed. Most importantly, many questions were answered, helping inform people of what service dogs are, and clarifying the human right to get help from a service dog in public places, and highlighting some of the issues that make this bill necessary.
