Nancy Orr – 45 Year 4-H Leader and Volunteer!

March 6, 2024 by Brad Trivers Leave a Comment

On March 6, 2024 I was pleased to rise and recognize Nancy Orr for her forty-five years of dedication to 4-H on PEI as a leader and volunteer.

Thank you, Mister Speaker.

For more than a century now 4-H youth programs have been empowering PEI youth with a “learn to do by doing” philosophy.

At the core of 4-H are the volunteers that organize the clubs and lead the many and varied projects that are offered. I want to recognize and send a huge thank you all the 4-H leaders, but in particular today it is a pleasure to rise today to commend lifetime 4-H volunteer and leader, Nancy Orr.

The Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet for 4-H PEI recently took place at the Rodd Royalty Hotel, and during the banquet, Nancy was recognized for having achieved an amazing 45 years as a 4-H volunteer and leader!

In particular, through her dedication to the Cavendish 4-H Club, she has had a direct and strong positive impact on hundreds, if not thousands, of 4-H members over the years. It is hard to overstate the profound influence she has had on youth development and building leaders within our communities.

Nancy embodies the 4-H pledge, consistently making sure she and her members use their Heads for clearer thinking, Hearts for greater loyalty, Hands for larger service and Health for better living in service of community, country and world.

Most recently Nancy is championing the 4H Healthy Living Initiative to support the health and well-being of rural youth across Canada.

The 4H Healthy Living Initiative aims to equip volunteers and families with the knowledge to help identify youth in distress and provide access to support they may need. It focuses on mental health, physical health, my plate and the planet.

This initiative was developed due to the fact that young people living in rural and remote communities are more susceptible to experiencing issues related to their mental and physical well being. In addition to being at greater risk for experiencing these issues, they may lack the same amount of resources and services available in more urban areas.

Mr. Speaker, please join me in sending a huge thank you to Nancy Orr for her 45 years of service to community as a 4-H volunteer – a great leader in a great organization.
