During public consultations, environment Minister Robert Mitchell committed to bringing the Water Act to the floor of the legislature in the spring 2017 sitting unless “political reasons” did not allow. Unfortunately, the Water Act was not brought to the floor for review and debate in Spring 2017.
Presumably the “final” version of the Water Act contains changes based on the feedback given during public consultations – and should be released immediately for review.
It appears that my colleagues at committee agree – my motion below was passed unanimously by the Standing Committee on Communities, Land & Environment:
“Write a letter as a committee to the Minister of Communities, Land & Environment, to continue the excellent process of openness and transparency and public consultation on the Water Act, and release the final version that was ready for the legislature in the spring, for review by the public.”
How about it Minister Robert Mitchell? Will you immediately release the latest version of the Water Act for public review?
