Salaried doctors don’t see enough patients

January 15, 2016 by Leave a Comment

Salaried doctors don’t see enough patients.  This is in comparison to fee-for-service doctors.  This contributes to more Islanders being without a doctor, and means that taxpayers are not getting as good a value for the doctor’s salary.

Notes

In the master agreement for doctors, as per Section B – Salaried Physicians, Article B3 – Job Descriptions, B3.2 states that the expected workload for a salaried physician is to be determined on an individualized basis:

  • A job description shall contain:
    • (a) the job title;
    • (b)
      • (i) the title of the physician’s immediate supervisor(s) for administrative and
        clinical purposes;
      • (ii) where an immediate supervisor is not a physician, the salaried physician shall report to the Medical Director in regard to all clinical matters;
    • (c) a summary of the position’s responsibilities;
    • (d) a description of the position’s specific duties, including
      • (i) location of the physician’s specific place(s) of work;
      • (ii) expected workload (to be determined on an individualized basis);
      • (iii) expected type and range of medical services to be provided;
      • (iv) expected on-call coverage; and
      • (v) any other related duties.
