RCMP Traffic Services Division should be reinstated

June 14, 2017 by Brad Trivers Leave a Comment

Hunter River – The RCMP Traffic Services Division on PEI needs to be reinstated to allow for better policing of Island roads.

“Our roads are not as safe as they need to be. Instances of drivers passing school buses with lights flashing, travelling too fast through communities, and drunk driving are far too common and there are not enough police to apprehend the perpetrators – especially with our increased population during the summer tourist season,” says Trivers.

Approximately four years ago the Liberal government cancelled a five-person RCMP Traffic Services Division to save money. This RCMP division was a roving unit that travelled across the Island ensuring traffic laws were enforced.

“It is my understanding that the RCMP Traffic Services Division almost paid for itself with fines levied – the cost is not high. Islanders want to get back to basics – and that includes being able to drive safely on our roads. As future leader of the PC Party and Premier I will bring back RCMP traffic services to improve road safety,” concluded Trivers.
