Need transportation-specific energy incentives

Electric Vehicles 2016

The transportation sector is the biggest contributor to PEI’s carbon emissions at around 40% – and about 36% of total energy consumption on the Island. Energy incentives are needed to encourage consumers to move to transportation options that produce less carbon emissions.  For example, the Ontario government has an Electric Vehicle Incentive Program. Canada-Summer-Jobs-Featured

Attention all not-for-profit, public and private sector small business organizations – apply now to hire a student this summer using the Canada Summer Jobs wage subsidy!  I spoke with our MP recently and he is worried that we won’t get enough applicants to use all the funding – which has doubled since last year. Not-for-profit employers get funding […]

Remove HST from electricity

Removing the provincial portion of the HST from electricity should be done because: only GST is charged on on heating oil electricity is the main output of renewable energy sources and a switch away to electricity from non-rewneable energy sources should be encouraged electricity is used by all Islanders and is a basic need that […]

Will UPEI reduce pensions?

Rumours are out that UPEI will reduce pensions by using something other than the best 3 years of wages as the basis for pension payments.  Those receiving pensions from UPEI have planned their retirement around the existing pension amounts, and it is unfair and wrong to make these sort of changes.

Taxi service needed in North Rustico

“A taxi service is much needed in North Rustico.  Especially, this would give freedom to those who cannot drive – much needed especially for seniors to seek medical treatment and food.” Notes from Brad This sort of service would be great not only in North Rustico, but in most of District 18.

Solar panels a feasible solution for North Star Arena cost reduction?

What is the cost-benefit analysis for solar panels on the North Star Arena to reduce costs?  Is there an opportunity for a funding partnership with provincial and federal governments? (e.g. 1/3 – 1/3 – 1/3)

Funding for Senior’s fitness programs needed

seniors chair and balance class

The cost of attending fitness programs is prohibitive for many seniors, who want to attend fitness classes, but cannot afford too. For example a local gym offers a “Seniors Chair & Balance Class” twice per week that costs $7.20 per session for a 10 pack, or $40/month (8 sessions so $5/session if attend all).  Cost is […]

Beef cattle financial protection program not working for farmers

The Ontario Beef Cattle Financial Protection Program is accessible to PEI producers that ship cattle to plants in Ontario.  It is alleged that the The Livestock Financial Protection Board that administers the program works in favour of the licensed dealers, as opposed the producer – specific details of a PEI case are available in confidence. Bank returned money after cheque was cashed

A cheque from an off-Island company was cashed, cleared, and deposited in the chequing account of the client.  The source company then went bankrupt, and the money was returned to them.  Why was the bank allowed to do this?

Beef cattle boarded on PEI but owned off-Island so sent away for killing

Many of the beef cattle on PEI are boarded here, but owned off-Island (e.g. owners in Ontario or Quebec).  When it is time for butchering the owner requests that the cattle are shipped to the owner’s plant of choice instead of going to Atlantic Beef Products.
